Lecture Series - Things That Go Bump in the Night (or Day): Meteorites, Comets, and Asteroids

ABOUT ABOUT

In the recent past we've seen a fireball explode over a Russian city, meteorites fall in Connecticut, and NASA scientists announce record close approaches of asteroids to our planet. Should we be worried that humankind will go the way of the dinosaurs, thanks to an errant hunk of space junk slamming into our unsuspecting planet? Join us on a journey through Earth's neighborhood in space, as we explore the differences between astronomical projectiles - meteorites, comets, and asteroids - and whether or not Chicken Little was right!

Dr. Kristine Larsen from Central Connecticut State University will present this lecture.  She is a premier astronomy professor and is held high as a shining example of “A Great Prof of Connecticut” (Hartford Courant’s “Northeast Magazine").
