Black Holes & Dark Matter

By Glastonbury Planetarium (other events)

ABOUT ABOUT

Join us for a double feature with a look at some of the biggest topics in astronomy: black holes and dark matter.

We'll open the night with the show, The Dark.  Did you know that 80% of the mass of the Universe is missing?  The search for dark matter is the most pressing astrophysical problem of our time. The solution to which will help us understand why the Universe is as it is, where it came from, and how it has evolved over billions of years.  We’ll look at galaxies, star formation, galaxies collisions, the Big Bang and gravity.  Using cutting-edge supercomputer visualization of massive scientific datasets and astrophysical simulation, audiences will see the large-scale structure of the universe as never before.

The feature show of the night is Black Holes - the Other Side of Infinity.   We'll travel to a place where the laws of energy, force, motion, and time are pushed to the limit.  Experience one of the most exciting applications of astronomy, mathematics, and physics in an immersive experience like no other.  Audiences will be dazzled with striking, immersive animations of the formation of the early universe, star birth and death, the collision of giant galaxies, and a simulated flight to a super-massive black hole lurking at the center of our own Milky Way Galaxy.
